The Modernism

The European Silver Programme starts a new cycle relative to the “Ages of Europe”, reflecting the European artistic movements – Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Age of Iron and Glass and Modernism, the theme chosen for this year.
The coin produced by INCM was designed by sculptor Rui Vasquez from a self-portrait of Almada Negreiros, one of the forerunners of so-called Portuguese Modernism, which accompanied the vanguard of European literature and arts in the early twentieth century, in breaking with the past and with all the traditional or classical marks in culture and society.
